It’s Your Email. Fight spammers with Spamfire.
Automatic Filter Updates

The Spamfire Remote Filter Service works in combination with the other Spamfire Filters to deliver fantastic spam-filtering accuracy. Every day, we add literally hundreds of new Remote Filters. The new Remote Filters become available in real-time, as soon as we add them to our server. With Spamfire, you're always up-to-date with the strongest possible spam protection.

How Remote Filters work

The Remote Filters target the one thing spammers can't hide: their Web site URLs. When a new spammer appears, or an existing spammer starts using a new Web site address, their address is quickly added to our massive database of 235,329 known spammers (count updated daily). A huge whitelist protects our filters from false positives.

We gather information for our Remote Filters from a number of sources, including other spam "blacklists" popular on the internet. But most important of all, we gather reports from actual Spamfire users. Users click the "Revenge" button in Spamfire and report spam to us. Those reports, after an automated review process, generate new Remote Filters. So all Spamfire users can benefit from Spamfire's Revenge button.

Remote Filters in Spamfire

When Spamfire intercepts a spam because of a Remote Filter, the Remote Filter will be cited in the Filter Results window. Spamfire uses the Remote Filters to automatically train the other filters, so Remote Filters not only intercept spam, they actually make Spamfire smarter about future spam, including brand new spam that appears before we can make a Remote Filter for it.

Your Filter Subscription

You must have a current Remote Filter Subscription in order to gain access to the Spamfire Remote Filters. Your subscription is connected with your Spamfire license. You can check the status of your subscription by choosing Filter Subscription... from the Spamfire menu. You can also renew or extend your subscription with this command.

Remote Filters work in both Spamfire 1 and Spamfire 2. If you upgrade from Spamfire 1 to Spamfire 2, any remaining time on your Spamfire 1 license will carry over to your new Spamfire 2 license. However, upgrades do not include a subscription renewal. If you upgrade to Spamfire 2 when your subscription is expired, you should also order a subscription renewal.

Although filter subscriptions do expire, Spamfire licenses do not. You can continue using Spamfire's other features even after your subscription expires. Licenses include free upgrades within the same major version number. For example, an upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 is free, but an upgrade from 2.2 to 3.0 is a paid upgrade.
